First time poster, just wanted to say thanks for all the insight from a new shooter. The wealth of information on this website is amazing. Anyway, I'm decking out a M&P pro for SSP and have read the rules. However I hoped to get your guys opinion on these changes just as a second set of eyes before I make the purchase on these add-ons. Also, if you guys see any issues for production on USPSA let me know as I have less experience with USPSA. Thanks in advance!

Here's the plan:

-M&P 9 Pro-

Stainless Steel Guide Rod, Non-Captured, S&W M&P 9/40/357 & 5"

ISMI M&P 9 & 40 Recoil Spring, 15#

KKM M&P 9mm L/Pro Drop-In Barrel

Apex M&P 9/40 Competition Action Enhancement

Apex RAM & FRE

10-8 Rear & Dawson Fiber Optic Front

My questions on the rig:

1.) With the KKM barrel I've read you need a shorter front sight, anyone got an exact sight height measurement for the pro?
2.) Also read the KKM is weird on the ammo, I only shoot factory, so what grain should I be looking at?
3.) Finally recoil spring weights, again I'd probably be shooting factory loads so, any opinions?

Thanks again for all the help in advance!

-James

I would go with just the CAEK from apex.No need to change recoil spring or guide rod.

If you are shooting factory ammo and you are not even sure with what bullet weight, leave the factory spring and captured guide rod in.

we use kkm no ammo or issues of any kind with 115 or 147 competition loads.

hmm what does "2.) Also read the KKM is weird on the ammo," mean?
Wicked for my wonderfully wicked wife! :)

You are going to get all sorts of answers...a lot of people are going to say keep it as stock as possible, others are going to say do all of the mods. I can't help you much on the ammo side as I reload my own and use 147gr...with a 13 lb. spring...makes all the difference in the world to me. But for sure do the trigger work, and sights. I like the Dawson Precision sights myself. Keep the stock barrel in the gun for now and see how it shoots first. If you are using factory ammo, then buy several different types of ammo and see what you and your gun like the best.
