I've been looking strongly at changing out my 1911 sights for a set of XS Sights. Anyone have experience with 'em? Problems with USPSA or IDPA that you know of since they are fixed dovetail items? They seem best for my older eyes and will be easier for carry-related stress sight acquisition. Thanks for the input in advance...

I have never seen anybody stay with them on a match gun.
The hot ticket seems to be a plain rear and a fibre optic front.
I DO know people who have them on carry guns for close range, but they do not hold up at distance.

I have XS Big Dot sights on 2 competition guns, both Smith & Wesson revolvers; a 625 and a Model 10. I've found them to be durable and useful. Bigger than usual sights, they are easy to pick up visually and have worked well for my USPSA endeavors. I've found that as I get older, I'm now 65, the white color of the XS sight is less desireable than the red / green of fiber optics so much so that I haven't used the guns with the XS sights in well over a year. Thanks guys. Buckaroo, what in your experience causes you to like the colors better? I would think that they would wash out at the distances handguns are for, regardless of the purpose. I have them on my turkey gun, but it seems that I'm in that twilight of needing/not needing glasses for iron sights. Looking for just this kind of input...

My focus is on the front sight with the target being slightly out of focus. The aging eyes issue is that the target is getting fuzzier and I need classes to keep the front sight in focus. The contrast of FO color make the front sight pick up quicker for me. The white ring / silver dot of the XS isn't intense enough. I also have a tendency to align the dot front and vertical line rear sight of the XS like I'm shooting bullseye. I'm slow enough without trying to align sights.

CLOSED in favor of the other thread asking the exact same thing.
Jerry, cross-posting the same question in multiple forums muddies the waters. Let's try to keep it all together.
Thanks...

Speed IS a tactic (and a pretty damn good one, too! )

Shhhh.... Please don't tell my Mom I'm a DRL. She thinks I'm still a piano player in a cathouse.
