My first match was a success. I met some really cool guys and had a blast shooting on some very fun stages. The MD is a great guy named Pete, he was very helpful and showed me the ropes. Shot my first classifier as well, cm0604 fluffys revenge. No misses and managed to not kill those no shoots. I believe my time was 6.18. I am very happy with that. I also made it through a 32rd stage and really impressed myself with great accuracy, dropped one Charlie. It was great hearing the score called 2a over and over!

Thanks to the guys out at DSRPC for giving a new guy a great welcome and for putting on a great fathers day match! I will be attending as often as I can!

That is great! I shot today also but had one stage with 3 no shoots and 2 mikes. It was still better than not shooting a match on fathers day. It is all good. The Captain

Congratulations.

This is a very addicting sport. You no sooner finish a match and you start jonesing for your next one.

BTW what are you shooting?

Jonesing is no joke. I know I can do better. All in good time, I must be patient and speed will come. I am a Production Division shooter, CZ75 SP01 Shadow. Gun ran great all day except for one thing. I had a sticky mag on my fifth stage, sucker just wouldn't drop free. Never had that problem during practice, it threw me off a bit and I did a weak 2nd reload too. I need to dremel down the backside of the mag release, it is the culprit.

Shot my first Texas star too, cleared it with only 2 misses. Overall I couldn't be happier. No DQ, the safety practicing I did paid off.

I do have one question. I thought I understood this part but apparently I am wrong. My gun is a safety equipped version traditional DA SA. On a loaded and holstered start am I allowed to start cocked and locked? Or must I manually decock? I thought I had to decock.

Congrats on the match!

From the Special Conditions section of the Production Appendix:

Handguns with external hammers must be fully decocked at the start signal.

Thanks for the clarification. I pulled out my rule book and found the same info, just wanted to make sure that I understand it correctly. Hopefully I will have some days off to catch more matches before it gets unbearably hot here.

I felt like I received a very warm welcome from the guys at DSRPC. Considering I had absolutely no idea what was going on, they plumbed me up real fast. I couldn't really ask for much more, all questions I had were answered and I shot a safe and fun match. The squad I was shooting with was great, I hope to squad with them again when I return. Some pretty fast guys out there for sure, opportunity to learn is perfect for a new shooter. The stages were awesome! Most fun I have ever had shooting. I'm just pumped about it now and can't wait for my next match.

The squadding seemed like it was meant to make shooting with your buddies easier. Keep in mind it was my first time there. Saw the "open squad", that was pretty cool. Loud and fast. Our squad was about a 50/50 mix of limited and production guys, with one SS shooter too. Flexible squadding I guess would be a better name for it. To me it looked like a fairly large amount of shooters moved through in about 3 hours so they must be doing something right. Not a single lazy shooter either, every person helped.

Open Squadding is a format we are trying here in Las Vegas, registration starts at 7 and as soon you have a 'squad size' group of shooters (8 to 12) away they go to the first stage, instead of waiting for everyone to show up, have the shooters meeting, etc.

Yesterday by 9 AM was near 100 degrees already, the first squad got done by 10.30 with the 5 stages, 116 rounds match.

Being a 'morning person' I like it very much. Of course it has two drawbacks, stages need to be completed (or near completed) the day before and not many people are around for taking them down.

That's funny stuff jriera. So true though. Summer doesn't start until the teens start showing in the temp.
