I could have sworn I saw where you take a FMJ load and drop it by 10% to start out for Lead load. Is this correct??

That would work. Try to be certain the internal volume is not materially different (smaller) when the new bullet is loaded.

Guy.

That works for faster powders from what I've experienced.
The slower the powder though the less the difference in load amount between fmj and lead/moly.

Sounds right, I load 4.1gr of VV310 with a 230gr FMJ and 3.7gr with a 230gr Lead RN. Power factor is about the same.

There is usually no shortage of published load data from the various powder mfgs for lead bullets. What can you not find ?

I'd probably do what you proposed in the first post.

No harm in the 10% reduction, just make sure that you are careful if you hear or see anything that would let you believe the round did not make it all of the way out of the barrel. Probably a highly unlikely scenario, but big surface areas with much friction could be an issue if the charge is too light.

In 45 acp, 4.7 grains of Clay's under a 185 grain lswc, is working for me. Length is 1.245.

I used a 180gr Bear Creek Moly @1.135" with 5.3gr of WSF for my .40 load.
It made major in my old Glock 35 with LW barrel and made major in my 5" Infinity.

With the 185, I'd start at 4.7gr WSF@1.135" and work your way up to 5.3. Maybe increments of .2
4.7
4.9
5.1
5.3

The powder is a little reverse temp sensitive so in summer might be a bit lower than winter. Just adjust for it or shoot a hitter load in winter by about 5pf.
