I've asked this in the 1911 forum in conjunction w/ another question or two, but have not gotten an answer.

Question:
This is my first foray into lead & I'm going to reload LSWC & I'm using a Lee die.
I can't simply turn over the plug because it has a lip on the end opposite the seating concave.
I have an old die, so can I simply grind off the "lip"? ...or grind down the concave side to just grab the SWC cone? ...or flat? ...or do I need to buy another seating plug?

Any help from the "pros" would be appreciated.

You can paint the tip of the bullet with a sharpie to see how well the seating plug is pushing on the tip of the bullet. If it's even across the top of the bullet and OAL dosen't vary more than a few thousands then go with what you have.
OAL varies to much send the bullet to Lee and for a few bucks they will make a plug to fit that bullet shape.
I have ground on the plug at home to get an even push on the top of the bullet and had a few plugs made local that are flat. Works well with large bullets.
I've been pleased with Lee Dies once you get the plug right there easy to adjust. I did replace the locking nuts with Dillon one inch nuts.

Of course!!!
I didn't even think of that.

I like Lee's too, but everyone I know uses Dillon.

Thanks for the info.

I had no problem with the Lee seating die just the way it came out of the package.

I loaded about 30 rds yesterday using the "ball" RN die.
Seemed to seat it pretty well.
Tomorrow we'll see as I'll hit the range & put the bullet & loads thru their paces.

Wish I'd know that because I've ordered one from Lee.
...but went to range today to work up a load & everything - everything! - went "bang"! ...chrono-ed really fast too! Going have to down-load & re-test!!!
Accurate as hell as well.

I've loaded plenty of .45 ACP LSWC with Lee dies and they never failed me. The seating plug worked just fine for RN, FP, and LSWC bullet styles.

*** you are absolutely right...tho I had one made x Lee ($8) for 200gr LSWC.
I used my RN until I came & loaded about 300 rds & not one of them failed me.
The COL was a bit scattered but not one failure to feed, extract or fire.
Ya' gotta' love it especially running it in a 2xStack!!!
