Scherer Grip Plug Legan in USPSA Production?

Why would I ask this? Bob Vogel raved about how much easier a Scherer grip plug made reloading in his Glock 34... He was actually talking about IDPA at the time, so I thought I'd check about USPSA legality before I bought one...

The Scherer plug is legal for Production. I have one in my G34.

No problems with magazines dropping free?
I've had zero issues with magazines failing to fall free due to the plug.

Thanks, guys!
No problems with magazines dropping free?
None! It acts like a mini magwell on insertion but does not touch the mags otherwise.

keeps crap outta the gun too
Hi Frank... It was nice shooting with you tonight... a little muddy, but fun!
I see you found my Scherer Grip Plug thread... As I mentioned, I originally found out about the Scherer Grip Plug in Bob Vogel's Mastering IDPA DVD... It does act as a mini-magwell... and it does protrude a bit below the bottom of the grip... That's why I asked if it was legal for USPSA here...
I got the Scherer grip plug this afternoon and practiced reloads before tonight's match... It does clean up the reload process... If they actually are legal, it's worth using IMO...

Any issues with fit on a Gen 4?
The plug I got was for a 3rd gen 34, which is what I have... I don't know if Scherer makes a grip plug for the 4th gen models...
However... after talking to frankge at our Friday night USPSA fun shoot... and after re-reading the USPSA Production Rules... I think these Scherer grip plugs are illegal...
Appendix D4 - Production Division
22.3 - External Plugs (Such as Seattle Slug)
Remains in effect - external plugs which alter the grip profile or exceed past the bottom of the grip are PROHIBITED.
The Scherer grip plugs do work well as a magwell, but they also extend past the grip... Per the rule above, I'm pretty sure that they are not legal... I'm now looking at different grip plugs that will be legal...

Excellent information!
Thank you very much for looking everything up and posting the links... I had never seen the "NROI Rulings" page before, so I saved that link for the future...

I replaced my Scherer plug with a legal plug from Pearce... Pearch calls their plug a Grip Frame Insert (GFI)... It fits flush with the heel of the grip and complies with the NROI Ruling... Rounded corners will help with reloads, so it is better than no plug at all...
