Two questions,
First, explain "calling your shots". I'm not sure I understand this.
Second, a buddy who is a M shooting told me to stop shooting IDPA. He said its only going to make it harder for me to progress. Your opinion on this?

It is simply knowing where the bullet hit after the shot breaks by reading your sights as it breaks.
