I have been loading 180gr JHP with 231. OAL 1.125 and 4.5 grns. Winchester shows a max of 5.0grns. With this length do you think I could bump it up a few 10ths of a grain? I still don't have a crono,so I'm not sure what these are pushing now.

Don't see any problem. Try 4.7gr. 45ACP is not a high pressure round so you should be good to go. I always had problems with underloading not overloading 45ACP. YMMV.

per the load data on the Hodgdon website for 231 the max of 5.0 grains should get you 170pf; perfect. 231/HP38 worked OK for me in .40, though I used to load long at 1.180.

I think this is a good powder for jacketed bullets. I used to use this before I went to moly coated lead.
no better place than here.. no better time than now....

for a glock 35 and a M&P full size with berrys 180 grain loaded to 1.135 I use 4.8 to 5.3 to mack major need the higher charge for M&P full size with the 4.25" barrel.
