Hey all, now that I am done with my AR15 I am putting my efforts back into my Witness. The pistol is a steel full size unit, that is having lots of failure to feed. The rounds are getting stuck just before they go into the chamber (round is at about a 30 degree angle relative to the barrel).

The barrel ramp was absolute crap when I got this pistol, I took a dremel with some polishing compound to the barrel ramp already. It made it better, but still way to many problems to rely on this pistol at all. At this point I want to just swap out the barrel. Are the replacements that EAA sells drop in, or do they need to be fitted by a gunsmith? IF it has to be fitted by a gunsmith I think it would just be easier to buy a conversion kit.

Also, I want to put in a DA/SA trigger with an over travel screw. Is this a really easy swap (I was able to assemble a ar15 lower without to much issues).

Thanks
-Justin

What caliber?

If this was a .40, and you have the old Tanfoglio mags, and you are loading standard length (1.135" or shorter), then you'll get this feeding issue. The easiest solution is to swap to the K40 mags. I believe the same solution applies to the 9mm, but in this case you'll want the K9 mags. If you want to keep your current mags, you'll need to load longer. 1.180" or more for .40. I don't know for 9mm, but your goal is equivalent to a .38 Super length.

As for putting in the DA/SA trigger, you'll need to add an interrupter to your hammer in addition to putting in a DA/SA trigger. Most of the SA hammers don't have the hole in them to pin in the interrupter, so you'll need to order a DA hammer as well. This should be an easy job if you know your way around guns, or are mechanically inclined. (I'm not mechanically inclined and I figured it out. )

hey...check to see which mag release you have...ive seen a couple different steel models that have the wrong one and dont hold the mag in the gun far enough....check this by taking your firing pin out to be safe and then load a mag and put it in the gun.....hold the gun down tight against a table so that it holds the mag in as far as it will go and while holding it down ...cycle the gun and see if the rounds still get stuck......just an easy way to eliminate one more thing....

Skydiver, this is a .45 and I only have Mecgar mags. I already have a DA/SA trigger, I just want to swap it out for the one that has the over travel screw.

littletoe, I believe it is a original mag release, I will check that out this week and put up the results.

Even if I can fix the FTF, I still would like to get a new barrel just because the ramp was so jacked up when I bought it. Even after polishing it there are lots of bumps and ridges, they just feel smoother now instead of being sharp.

I've had the same issue you described in your original post with TC and HP .45. My solution was to shorten the OAL such that the outline of the TC would fit in the outline of a RN.

Do you really mean over travel spring, or are you talking about an over travel screw like on the Stock II trigger?

I meant screw, for some reason my fingers are hung up on typing spring :) I edited my first 2 posts.

So far I have just been putting 230 FMJ Ball ammo through it. Once I have it all sorted I plan on using 185gn HP.

I read somewhere that somebody just drilled and tapped their trigger instead of buying a new one.

I run 185gr flat points through mine and it feeds ok. I think my OAL is shorter like Skydiver described. However the mags for the .45 still suck unfortunately. Its the only mag MecGar didn't fix.

Post a pic of your feed ramp and some of us can give an opinion on whether a new barrel would help.

Looks wise I think the ramp is GTG, what I am concerned about is that I had to remove a bit of material (tried my best not to mess with the angle) to get it as smooth as it is now. I will get some pics up tonight.

I apologize in advanced for the pictures, they are from my phone because I can't find my actual camera. Also these pics make the gouges in the ramp look much better than they are. You can still catch your finger on them, they are just smooth bumps instead of sharp edges after I polished it. I must have been thinking about my old TA90 when I said the ramp was good
