Just got my new steel (Rimfire) pistol.
I decided to get a Ruger 22/45 5.5 Target barrel.
Bought it brand new today!
I installed the factory scope rail and for now i had a BSA reddot that was just laying around i got from walmart im going to see if I can zero it in and maybe use it on the next steel match coming up on the 18th.
If not I will just use the iron sights.
Can anyone reccomend me some upgrades to the pistol. I know nothing about these and I want to be competitive in the open rimfire class.

Spend the extra money for GOOD ammo. Nothing worse than seeing a nice 22 pistol choking on crap ammo.

you may get lucky with a bulk pack, but you may consider getting mini mags, they seem to work good. Alot of .22lr are ammo finicky, so if you find some cheap ammo that does work for you gun then stock up!

Yea i will try what i have and get some minimag ammo also see whats best.

where is a good place to order some magazines?
I know alot of people use this pistol thats why im asking so many questions!

Mine works great with federal bulk. CCI works good until it gets cold out. Remington golden bullets suck for me.

Parts I would pick up:

Volquartsen extractor and Volquartsen extended firing pin. About 30 bucks. Will help aid extraction and better ignition.

Remove loaded chamber indicator, and magazine safety

Use quality ammo: either CCI or decent federal

Get a better red dot.

I agree with Robby O. Volquartsen parts are wonderful. The Volquartsen trigger makes it 10 times better! Very very nice!

And I've never had any luck with bulk-pack ammo. CCI Mini-Mags are not THAT much more expensive (nothing like Eley or some of the other premium 22's) but it makes a world of difference. Start there.

My Volquartsen gun will typically eat everything. But remington is by far the worst garbage on the freaking planet. Avoid that like the plague.

CCI and federal are the way to go.

Would this be a good enough site to start with?
I don't want to spend too much money on a optic for this gun. I'm going to build my glock for open class
So I'm saving for a c-more for that.

Have you tried Midway? They frequently have them on sale. The best upgrade I did to my 22/45 was adding the Volquartson trigger parts.

Listen to my man Robby. Skip all the junk and get a C-More and an Allchin rail. He kept telling me that and I ended up trying 5 different cheaper sights, only one of which is still working today. The C-More has never failed.

Thanks brotha. Kent (Photoracer) is right. Eventually you'll go to a match with your Airgun dot (BSA) and either it will wash out, lose zero, blink on you, etc.

All those 30 dollar sights will add up on you.

And the Allchin mount for the Cmore is the best available. Mr. A makes the lowest possible mount for that dot available. I would put a little blue loctite on the screws for the mount though to secure it down. Kent's right, cant beat it. Buy once cry once dude.

I shoot For Volquartsen, the mods I def recommend to anyone to improve reliability quickly and inexpensively is their extractor and firing pin. A 30 dollar upgrade that will launch your brass into the next state over and much improved striking power from their ext. firing pin.

If you like the trigger the way it is just shoot it.

I think I'm going to go with a Burris fast fire 2. I really want to get a c-more and switch from my glock to my rim fire eventually I want to shoot open with my g17, I'm slowly building it up to a open gun. Going to take a long time! I plan on shooting production until I get the magwell then moving to limited until I get to open class.
I guess I could use the Burris on the glock also.

I will search around for a used c-more sight in my price range for a couple more days. If I don't find one then I will just get the Burris.
If you can't tell by now I can't make up my mind at all I'm all over the place all the time!

I'm not trying to be rude dude. When you stated in your post "I want to be competitive in the open rimfire class" I decided to speak up. You have to have reliable equipment that fits you. You also have to be prepared to be competitive and not all over the place all of the time.

If you're just trying to have fun in this sport that's one thing... If you want to win or be competitive that's another.

You can get a Cmore from shooters connection for $209.00 I believe they sell the Burris too.

So you have a good pistol platform, put a quality optic on it, feed and lube the bitch and run it hard.
