In laymans terms, is there any way I can capture an audio file from a DVD, internally. Right now the only way I can figure it out is to make a recording and the sound quality blows.

Not easily, but it is possible. You'd have to crack the files out of the DVD, then extract the audio portion into some format you can use. There are tools that can do this, but they're not super layman-friendly.
If you want to go that route, visit http://www.doom9.net and look at the 'guides'.
I did this for one of Matt's DVDs so I could listen to it when working out and it was surprisingly effective without video.
