Starting March 01, 2011 we will have a new pricing structure for Atranite™ refinishing services. We've been disassembling and reassembling guns at no charge for the customer. I worked until 3:30 AM last night putting guns back together from the last batch and cannot continue to provide that service for free. If you send in your gun, disassembled and the parts prepped the cost of refinishing will be without any additional labor charge. If we have to prep parts or break the gun down we'll need to get compensated for the time spent.

Complete gun with any or all small parts $200 + return shipping and insurance
Frame/slide/barrel, or any combination of the 3 will be $150 + return shipping and insurance
Labor for gun dis-assembly/re-assembly $50

Thanks for your business!

What kind of prep work?

Front sights can be left on the gun unless they are tritium. The major part of the prep work is in cleaning the surfaces. A good portion of the guns we get in look like they just came from Nationals... full of fouling and crud.

When I get a little more mileage on my Trojan it will be heading out to be covered in Atranite inpenetratablium just like it's older Limited gun brother. :D

For anyone on the fence this is one amazingly tough, great looking (if you like black which I do) finish at very affordable price.

Just for info for myself and others: so the rear sights (adjustable STI in my case) should be removed and sent as a part: but do we need to remove the hinge pin to separate the two parts??

What's the average turnaround time and could you ballpark the return shipping + insurance for a single 1911 (TN)? Thanks.

Turn around is about 3-4 weeks. If you send in your gun parts with $800 insurance your shipping should be around $18 or so.

Can you do this finish to a slide that has been hard chromed and a frame that has some kind of teflon finish on it?

Tanner,
The only problems we've ever had with the Atranite came from guns that were plated prior to processing. Even if the old chrome is chemically stripped there is the possibility there could be some discoloration. For that type of application, we'd recommend our DLC finish which is the same price as hard chrome at $300.

Hello, Wondering if you are still providing the Atranite service for refinishing firearms. I read somewhere today that you may have stopped offering this service? I was planning on having my 2011 components (barrel, slide, frame at least) refinished with this process to further its corrosion resistance. I am concerned with warpedge post heat treat and if the barrel and other smaller components such as the safety and hammer would be OK to process this way.

Also, what do you charge to do the TiN coating on just the barrel? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer!

We have currently suspended offering the Atranite finish. Our vendor got some big Army contracts and we don't know if parts will take 6 weeks or 16 weeks to return.

Careful what company you use to Nitride your parts, some use higher temperatures and can cause damage to the heat treat condition of your firearm parts. That's why we used who we did for processing on our parts, they kept the temps in a safe zone.

Thanks for the fast reply! Your work is very impressive - I've enjoyed your tutorials and webpage videos. Thanks for sharing your work with all of us. Wondering, If you get a chance, could you message me the company that you did use for this process? I tried writing you a message but it said you couldn't accept anymore. I have a company in mind that I've spoken too regarding getting the QPQ Isonite finish done but don't want to post it here as to take away what you've established.

With the work that you have had done in the past, any issues with final fit and finish of the parts with regards to cracking or distortion? Thanks in advance!

We used MMI Tru-tec. I don't mind publishing that information. No cracking, no distortion, no funny business of any kind. Another excellent vendor to look at is H&M Metal Processing in Ohio.

I've sprayed many guns with the original Gunkote but have never seen Cerekote. How does it compare for durability to Gunkote and your Atranite process?

KG Gunkote is a quality product and is very similar to the Cerakote. Cerakote just claims their product to be a little better.

I don't recommend coating mags with anything. Everything under the sun has been tried. Nitriding the mags makes them harder so they last longer but the finish needs to be polished off as it collets oil which makes dirt cling to the mags.
