Has anyone tried strategically placing a small slit in the foam ring of muff hearing protection?? I'm thinking put the muffs on then slide the eye pro through the VERY small hole to alleviate the pinching. I double plug now all the time so I'm thinking a very small slit might help make the muffs more comfy with shades on.

Am I crazy to think this might work?

good idea actually. It would alleviate the tenting effect that alows sound in and also perhaps be more comfortable

That's what I was thinking! I can't seem to figure out why all muffs are made and fitted to be worn with no provision for eye pro... Shooting muffs made for no eye pro?? Just goofy if you ask me. A little flap filled with the same stuff plugs are made from would close up right around the ear piece.

I had a pair of electronic muffs but on a hot day they were uncomfortable. I ordered a pair of ear "tubes" from the NRA store that claimed a higher protection than most muffs. They are extremely light weight, don't cause me to sweat, and do the job. They cost about $30.00.

The EAR custom fitted plugs really stop the noise. It is remarkable. They deaden the noise so much that I can't carry on a regular conversation with them. I haven't tried electronic muffs plus the plugs that may be a good combo.

What I do now is use muffs for walking around the range and SO/ROing. When I'm on deck I put in the plugs for my turn at bat. If you have a flinch because of noise the EAR plugs will go a long way toward fixing that.

NOTE: not an EAR rep, just a satisfied customer.

I wear the electronic muffs but have considered getting some of the electronic plug. What are some good brands to consider?

If anyone is interested, swing by the Hear-Pro table at the Pro-Am in Frostproof this weekend. We'll be moulding custom plugs on site all weekend for less than you'll spend on ammo.
There is nothing so tragic as the murder of a beautiful idea, by a brutal gang of facts.

It is physically impossible for an object in motion to move in two separate directions simultaneously.

I may be slow, but I'm inaccurate.

I use custom ear plugs and muffs together...better protection and helps with flinching due to less muzzle blast sound:)

What is the cost of some of those custom ear plugs? where is the best place to buy too? Thanks

Fortunately we have two local shooters that decided to become certified to make the E.A.R. instamold plugs because there was no one making "good quality" plugs locally.

I just got a set of the E.A.R. plugs from a guy at our local gun show. The cost was $60 and they're great.

Has anyone bought the do it yourself mold kit? Wonder if it makes decent hearing protection.

Yes. Don't waste your money! The problem is you can't get a tight enough fit because you can't force the foam into the ear canal far enough. If you want plugs, get them custom molded at a hearing aid facility or find someone who does the E.A.R. custom plugs.
